Party of Seven| Shopping with Intention

Happy Monday!

I am so excited to share this blog piece with you all. A little back story- I visited Philadelphia some months ago for work and during a break I took the time for some window shopping and coffee (there is always time for coffee right?). While strolling, I fell in love with the window of a store front shop Ten Thousand Villages (TTV), I loved all the vibrant colors, textiles, artifacts my eye was drawn to. I stepped in of course and enjoyed learning about this shop. Ten Thousand Villages is a movement, its mission is to live life fair, they support a maker-to-market movement where we can all shop with intention. In summary, its more than a store, each piece you purchase is a way for you to connect with the maker which may be from across the world, these makers which are part of the ten thousand villages that the buyers of TTV visit to acquire these one of a kind pieces.

I was thrilled when the TTV team wanted to help me give my pool area a refresh to get started for our warmer season. We spend a lot of time out there and I wanted to bring in more color as well as a piece for relaxation and they did just that!

First up are pillows from a group in Bangladesh called Prokritee. This group is one of my favorites to learn about, because many of the women have broken free from the sex trade and joined Pobitra, a program where they can learn about personal health and hygiene, their basic human rights, and how to read and write. As they move through the program, they are also taught a marketable skill, and have opportunities to work in fair trade workshops, like the ones TTV works with. How amazing is it to have items in your home that are not only beautiful but because of your purchase you’re making a difference?

I have been on the hunt for new outdoor drink ware that was not only beautiful but different and TTV sent over these ceramic tumblers that are made by their partner group-Mahaguthi in Nepal. The tumblers add that special touch to our outdoor living space, especially when entertaining. These will help me reduce waste, and don’t worry although handmade they are still dishwasher safe.

Lastly, and I must say my favorite piece to spruce up the pool area is my hammock chair sent over, which they acquire from their partner group Oyanca Artesania.

I was able to have my husband install the hardware so I can easily hang it up or remove it at nighttime to preserve it. We are in love and I can picture myself doing lots of reading, or even checking your Instagram comments from this chair!

The best thing, is that my hammock comes in its own bag for safe keeping, and I know it will stay just as I received it and I can enjoy it for a lifetime (maybe I will let the kids enjoy it also).

I hope you all take some time and visit a neighboring Ten Thousand Village shop, or shop online- I have included links to all my pieces, feel free to use code KURLYCROWN25 for 25% a regular priced item. Happy shopping and remember to live life life fair!

Hope you are all enjoying our party of seven series, stay with us, lots more fun to come!
